AHIMA is my number one recommendation for ICD-9-CM coding training. The association provides a myriad of on-line training programs on anatomy and physiology, coding, and other health information related topics. The courses range in price from $175 to $300 and, because of the shorter, focused courses, allow the student a lot of flexibility. You can use the AHIMA courses to try out different topic areas and determine if you have an interest in delving further into the learning process. You can access the course listings from the “Professional Development” tab on the AHIMA homepage.
AAPC is my number one recommendation for CPT coding training. The association offers an independent study program that ranges from about $1,200 to about $1,800, depending on whether you are a member or chose to train for physician office or hospital-based training. The AAPC does not allow for much flexibility since you must register and pay for the entire program prior to beginning the coursework. You should know before you begin that this is a profession you are committed to.
“Finally, for the average American, Ruthann Russo has provided a sane, sensible solution to personal healthcare. I highly recommend this book to healthcare consumers.”
